STEVENS; Keptin Ronald Joseph Sr.
Wagmatcook
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald Joseph Stevens Sr. on Wednesday, April 3 at Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck. Ronald was born in North Sydney, but lived his life and was a proud member of the Wagmatcook community. He was a respected elder of the community, who was very proud of his culture and language and worked hard to teach it to anyone willing to learn. His life was marked by his love for his people, his culture, his language and his God. Ronald was a member of the Grand Council, a past Chief and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active participant in the Chapel Island Mission and served as an altar server well into his 70s.
Along with his parents Joseph and Annie Stevens, Ronald was also predeceased by all of his siblings Stephen, Thomas, Rodrick, Benedict, Andrew, Daniel, Mary Helen Piero, Isabelle Poulette and Angeline Googoo. Ronald is also predeceased by his wife Jane Julia (Isadore), and children: Keith, Douglas, Deborah, Marcia and Gerald and grandchildren: Shawn and Chad.
Ronald survived by his children: Ronald Joseph Jr., David, Kevin and Connie along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, god children: Noel Googoo and Roger Peck and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the hospital staff for their compassionate care, and thank you to all our family and friends who visited and prayed for our Father.
Visitation will begin from 2pm on Sunday, April 7 at the Elders Centre in Wagmatcook with a Funeral Mass taking place at 11:00am on Tuesday, April 9 at Queen of the World Church with Fr. Vargheese officiating. A feast / salite will take place following the service at the Cultural Center in Wagmatcook.
