Obituary of Olive Blanche (Ward) Myers
MYERS, Olive Blanche (nee Ward) Olive passed away peacefully, on Sat. June 23/18, just days before her 99th birthday, at Four Elms Retirement Residence in Vaughan, with her daughters by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Jay Myers in 1971, who is buried in Mt. Pleasant, Pennsylvania. Olive was born in London, England on July 2, 1919. At 2 years of age, she came to Toronto, where she grew up. She attended Regal Road PS and Central Commerce HS. She worked as a stenographer (secretary) and was one of the first ‘liberated’ women of her day. She and Russ married in 1941 and spent the War Years state-side, while Russ played trombone with the Glen Miller US Army Band. They returned to Toronto and raised their 2 daughters, Amanda and Jo-Ellen. Olive was always the life of the party. She enjoyed square-dancing, swimming at the cottage, golf, bowling and even played baseball with employees at Consumers Gas. She also played the Cello. She loved travelling and went on many Elderhostels in retirement. She was well-loved and will be dearly missed by her daughters: Amanda Eason (Ernie) and Jo-Ellen Beck (Richard). She was an enthusiastic “Baba” to her 6 grandchildren: Jeff Eason (Leilei), Cheri Wilson (Craig) and Steve Eason (Stephanie Coleman) and Robin Beck, Jordan Beck and Brandon Beck. She was also “Baba” to 7 great-grandchildren: Katie, Chelsea, Bruce, Wesley, Gavin, Keira and Dylan. Visitation will be held at the Jerrett North York Funeral Home (6191 Yonge St., south of Steeles) on Wed. June 27, 2018. from 10:00 am until time of the funeral service which will be held in the chapel at 11:00am. A reception will follow the service. Interment at Beechwood Cemetery, Concord at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made be made to Thornhill United Church or a charity of your choice.
