William Struk

William Struk Born in Toronto on Oct. 12, 1924 to Michael and Fanny Struk, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Providence Villa in Toronto July 1st, 2018, age 93. Husband of Leona (Lafond) for 66 years, father of Susan (David Bernard), Steven (Susan), Janice (Stephen Leslie), and Michelle (Ronal St. Martin), step father to Ray Marlatt (Monica). Grandfather of Justin, Brandon, Hayley, David, Ayden, Cassidy, Ronal Jr., Mia, Remy, Dana, and Libby, great grandfather of Ethan. Bill was a dear brother of Helen Romaniuk and Stephen (killed in action during WW II in 1945). Bill was a well known and popular professional welter/middleweight boxer in Toronto from 1947 thru 1951, he fought many opponents and had a winning record. He met his wife Leona in June 1951 after a bout at Maple Leaf Gardens, Dad claimed both of his eyes were almost closed shut after that fight and asked her out, she said yes and said because she felt sorry for him. They married in March 1952. Dad had a very colourful working life and eventually retired from Purolater Courier in 1989. He enjoyed vacations with his family and friends, golfing with his friends Bill and Cal and liked being at home with his family. He was a very resourceful man, well respected and much loved. He didn’t always say much but just the look he gave at any given time said all that he needed to say. July 5 at 4pm at Giffen-Mack/Dignity Funeral Home, 2570 Danforth Av. Toronto. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Alzheimers Society of Toronto - alzheimer.ca/en/on
