Obituary of Isabel Harriet Hay
Isabel H. “Izzy” Hay, 96, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2019. She was born in Matlock, Washington to the late Arza and Julia (Gulliver) Hay. Izzy attended Kirkland High School, graduating with the class of 1941. Upon graduating, Izzy worked for Pacific TehTel until 1948 when she enlisted into the United States Army. She served honorably from 1948 to 1954, reaching the rank of Sergeant First Class and earning a Good Conduct medal. When arriving back home to Washington, Izzy worked for the Washington State Security Department as a statistical clerk until her retirement in 1983. Izzy belonged to the Women’s Army Corps Veterans Association Chapter #63, where she was the 2nd V.P. for three years, and the American Legion Post #164 in Yelm, WA, where she was considered to be a lifetime member. She spent her free time after retirement as a volunteer driver for the Yelm Senior Center, RSVP Catholic Community Services, and the Para-Transit. Izzy also volunteered her free time to the American Lake division of Puget Sound Health Care systems VA. Izzy’s heart and soul was in the military, and helping others. She also had a great love for animals, especially cats, and was known to take care of any that made their way into her life. She will be forever missed by her family and friends, Lou Ann Strozyk, Mc Cleary, Wa., Lois LaVonne Stearns, Pacific, Wa., Edith Elaine Wheeler, Maple Valley, Wa. and numerous great nieces and nephews, as well as her many friends of the American Legion Auxiliary of Yelm, Wa. In addition to her parents, Izzy is predeceased by her sisters, Ellen Heinricks, Ruth Hay, Pearle Owens, Lois Elick, and her brother, Glen Hay. A grave side service with military honors will be held on Wednesday, June 26th, 2019, at 11:00 am at the Shelton Memorial Park, in Shelton WA.
