Obituary of Ernest Albert Holcomb
Ernest Albert Holcomb was lovingly known as “Ernie” by everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Holcomb Foster and by his aunt, Louise Dotson and husband, Ruben Dotson who raised him. He was born in Crewe, Virginia on November 2, 1926 and peacefully departed this life to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 in Summit, New Jersey at the age of 92. As a child he attended school in Virginia. He was the oldest of five and was preceded in death by three siblings, Ollie Lee Foster, Margaret Louise Foster and Drew Walter Foster. Ernest served two tours in the U.S. Navy and received the Victory World War II medal. Both tours ended with honorable discharges. Later, he completed and received a Certificate from Maryland School of Photography where he graduated July 30, 1949. He attended Parker Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in Cocoa, Florida where he became a Deacon and received a Certificate of Ordination on May 7, 1998. He was a professional painter who took great pride in his work and accomplishments and often called himself a Jack of All Trades. Even after his retirement he continued to work. He met and married his first wife, Maeolis Freeman, who preceded him in death. Five children came from that union. Later he entered into a second marriage to Lacy Brooks, who also preceded him in death. He was also predeceased in death by his daughter Jacqueline Mosley. Ernest leaves to rejoice his memory his children, Milton Carter and wife, Marilyn Carter of Crewe, VA, Alberta Green and husband, George Green of Newark, NJ, LaVerne Johnston and husband Marco Johnston of Union, NJ, Hurve Holcomb of Brooklyn, NY and Larnell Holcomb of Newark, NJ; stepchildren, Edward Ross of Niagara Falls, NY, Mary Dixon of Connecticut; one sister, Etta Mae Foster of Baltimore, Maryland; a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, great great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving long-time friends.
