Alma Rivera was born the middle child of five siblings on April 29th, 1956 in Manila, Philippines. She married Vic Rivera on December 8th, 1981 and had their child, Charlie Rivera, on November 6th, 1990. Alma worked as an Accountant Analyst at Bank of Philippine Islands (BPI) for almost 25 years. She and her family migrated to Vancouver, BC, Canada in May 2003, where she found her second family at Winners Retail store in Downtown Vancouver. She worked there for 15 years as a Cash Office Accountant. In February 2015, she was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. Later that year, July 2015, she was also diagnosed with Liver Cirrhosis. The following year, in May 2016, she had a knee replacement surgery. Alma’s faith and her strong familial support have carried her through these challenging times. She endured treatment after treatment, and yet nothing could break the smile on her face. Her final days were spent with her family and friends close to her bedside every night. She passed away peacefully on Monday, June 10th, 2019, age 63 at Burnaby Hospital. “She always meditated – not through yoga, but through her Novena Chaplets. She was always quiet – not because she’s mad, but because she would be praying the Rosary. She was not physically strong, but her faith in God is strong as a rock.” – Charlie Rivera

Dearest Alma: How sweet it is to remember what a wonderful friend you are …. loving and kind in all your ways; how we shared our moments-both happy and sad… you were so easy to cheer up with my tiny corny jokes while blurting out, “kikay ka talaga!” There were times that we just sat and talk about anything, sharing our thoughts and feelings and you always had stories to tell; you were a good listener too. I always admire your strong faith in God and being positive that everything will be alright…
We will miss your sweet smile and your gentle nature… you may be gone on this earth, but in memory you are still with us. Heaven has just received another angel…
To Tito and Charlie and the whole Ocampo and Rivera family: our heartfelt condolences. May our Lord comfort you during this difficult time.

For the past days I was thinking of you and that maybe what we called premonition. And when I heard the news I kept remembering the good olds days we shared in Comtrust and BPI. I became sentimental and cried . When we first visited New York, I was trying to ask your address. There was this eagerness in me to visit you in Canada but no one could tell your exact address.
Oh how I wished we had the chance to see each other before you went ahead of us. Anyway you are in the best place now- in a mansion that our Lord has prepared for a loving person like you. Please intercede for us that we may live our life in accordance with God’s will so that where you are, we may be
Love you till we meet again my friend.

To Tito, Charlie, Ocampo and Rivera families, our prayers and condolences- from Mon and Chiquit Abelgas

It's sad to know that you left us already and I never got the chance to see you after our BPI days, but looking on the bright side, I know you are happy now with our Creator and free from all the pains. I will never forget you my dear Ninang Alma, from being my very first mentor in BPI, to a friend, a confidant, even more like a mother to being our Ninang in our wedding. Thank you so much for all the memories that will forever be in our hearts, bye for now and until we see each other again. We will continue to pray for you and your family. May you rest in peace, Ninang.
Our deepest condolences to Charlie, Kuya Tito and to the rest of the family.

Alma, Our friendship is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Talking to you made me smile and meeting you set me free. I can’t believe that fate is taking you away and ripping us apart. I just want to say that I will miss you from the bottom of my heart.
Life and destiny can steal my best friend away from me but nothing can take away the precious memories.
Thank you Alma for having me as part of your family. Goodbye my friend.
Antonio

Remembering those happy years we had together for almost two years at Comtrust then later on at Bank of the Philippine Islands.

You left us too early my friend, my kumare. We haven't even seen each other yet since you left for Canada. I remember those times too when you were asking how I survived a stage three colon cancer and I told you, "don't lose the Faith, rely on Him and pray always". I know you were a strong woman battling all those unfortunate incidents in your life. Be happy now my friend, may God always keep you in His loving embrace.

To Vic and Charlie and to the rest of Alma's family, my sincerest condolences on Alma's passing.
