Athanasia Liapis
August 4, 1939 – November 3, 2018

Liapis, Athanasia (Soula), age 79 of Vancouver, BC, left us suddenly on the afternoon of Saturday, November 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family and dearest friends. Soula was born in the village of Filipi, near Kavala, Greece to Stephanos and Helene Maroulis (nee Monachou) on August 4, 1939.
Soula was a strong, intelligent woman who loved her family and friends deeply. She was a talented cook and gifted gardener. She often combined these skills and created memorable feasts while entertaining family at home or customers at her successful restaurants. She was an amazing mother, devoted wife, loving grandmother and a loyal and generous friend.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Nicholas; her sons, Constantine and Stephanos (Brigitte); grandchildren Magdalena, Niko, Dimitra and Stefano; siblings, Afentoula (Petros, decd.), Kiriaki (Filipas, decd.), Aglaitsa (Neofitos, decd.), Chrisoveris (Donna); and her sisters in-law, Anna (Michalis, decd.), Anastasia (Lazaros), and Evangelia (Yiannis, decd.); and thirty-two nieces and nephews. Soula was pre-deceased by her parents, and her dear brother Yiannis.
Prayer service to be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church, 4500 Arbutus Street, Vancouver on Tuesday, November 13th at 5:30 pm.
Funeral service will be held at St. George's Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, November 14th at 11:00 am. Father Timoleon Prattas officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Burnaby.
Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may kindly be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke foundation.
