Obituary of Bruno Iten
Bruno Iten passed away peacefully in his sleep November 22, 2018 at the age of 74. He is survived by his loving wife Verna Amell and children; Heidi (Carlo Biagi), Jennifer Iten, David Iten, Fergus Amell, and grandchildren Sebastian and Chiara Biagi. Bruno was born and raised in Zurich Switzerland. He emigrated to Canada as a young man and became a proud Canadian Citizen. He was also proud of his Swiss heritage. Bruno worked for many years as a Mechanical Engineer, in the Pulp and Paper Industry, traveling the world visiting Pulp mills. He was involved in research and design and patented innovative mechanical tools for the industry. Bruno had many hobbies and passions, these included building and flying model airplanes, attending air shows and museums, and building a model remote controlled tug boat from blue print design. He volunteered at OWL rescue for several years and was an avid eagle watcher. He was involved in Crossbow shooting and Rifle marksmanship at the Swiss Canadian Mountain Range Association. He loved cars particularly his Mercedes Benz, and loved tinkering and going to Auto shows. He was an expert downhill skier and could find the line of descent on any mountain. He was very involved in his children’s sports and activities, coaching, driving, and supporting them in lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, ice hockey, judo, and teaching them all to downhill ski. In his retirement he found enjoyment in the companionship of his Border Collie Angus and began training to participate in sheep herding trials. However, Illness prevented him from completing this last passion; but with a trainer he was able to attend competitions to see Angus earn Blue Ribbons. Bruno will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Bruno's life will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at at 1:00 pm at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, 5390 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Kidney Foundation.
