Caroline Margaret Cook

With deep sadness we announce the passing of Caroline Cook (nee Oliver) on January 24, 2019, who passed peacefully with her family at her side. She is survived by her husband Peter, daughter Charlotte Robertson, son Daniel (Jennifer Lorne), grandchildren Sophie and Naomi, sister Lynne Arling of Calgary, brother David Oliver (Glenda Day) of Toronto, brother-in-law Martin Cook (Donna) of Kelowna and sister-in-law Janice Ashlie (Jan Madsen). Caroline graduated from the University of Alberta with a diploma in Dental Hygiene and became the first practising hygienist in Victoria. Subsequently she practised in London, Ontario, Ottawa and Vancouver. After retiring from that 25-year career she took up property management and was actively involved in volunteer activities with the Red Cross, the Arthritis Society and the BC Schizophrenia Society where she was instrumental in starting and acquiring initial funding for the organization that eventually became the BCSS Foundation. She was an avid walker, gardener, reader and international traveller, a reluctant cyclist, a cross-country skier and a stalwart member of her “women’s walking group” for 35 years. Caroline will be remembered for her strength of character and forthright comments, humour, honesty, curiosity, inclusiveness of others, thoughtful advice and her drive to do things well. Younger women often said that she was a role model. Her closest friends called her an “amazing woman”. She will be missed tremendously by family and friends alike. Go in peace, Caroline. There will be a memorial service and Celebration of Life at 2.00 pm Wednesday, February 13 at the Arbutus Club, 2001 Nanton, Vancouver.
