It is with deep sadness that Derek's family announces his sudden passing.
Derek was the loving son of the late Annemarie and Ken Hodge, and cherished brother to Hans and Robert Hodge. Derek spent his early years in Ontario attending Hillfield College in Hamilton, then Appleby College in Oakville. He graduated from the University of Guelph with a B.A., followed by a Business Degree at Capilano College in North Vancouver. He thrived on the west coast first exploring in the Queen Charlottes with Chevron Canada, then later settling in Vancouver working at Lipton before building his successful antique business. Derek was the sole proprietor of “Hodge-Podge”. His antique business, like its name, honoured beauty and function from every era. His knowledge was vast, his research extensive. A true historian, Derek delighted in sharing the expertise and stories he discovered with all those in the industry. With a special understanding and love of the mid-century period, Derek excelled at skillful restoration, and was widely known and respected as a “picker extraordinaire”. Derek was a modest, kind hearted, razor-sharp intelligent and hilarious gentleman. His wicked sense of humour will be deeply missed by all his aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and especially his favourite targets: sister-in-laws, Barbara and Kathy, uncle and aunt, Joost and Marlee, nieces and nephews, Timothy (Lyndsey), Benjamin, and Allyson, and cousins, Myfanwy and Alexander (Verity) and new baby Wynona. We all adored him.
