Obituary of Douglas Barry Simpson
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Barry Simpson. Barry, as he was known by all, succumbed to the effects of Parkinson’s disease in the early morning of February 1, 2019 at the age of 75. Barry was born in Ottawa, Ontario on August 3, 1943 to Douglas Colborne and Anna Ferne (Cairns) Simpson. Barry moved with his family to British Columbia as a young boy and attended West Van High. Barry graduated with a bachelor’s degree in architecture from UBC in 1968 and was a member of the Architectural Institute of B.C. and a practising architect until the last few years of his life. Barry is survived by his wife, Janet, son Douglas (Cheryl) and daughter Jessica Wolff von Gudenberg (Tom), brother, Gregg (Carol and their daughter, Julia), and grandchildren, Robert, Lukas and Magnus. Barry will be remembered by his family for his unfailing love, support and kindness. Barry was a gentle soul who inspired others by his example and he will always be remembered as the best husband, father, big brother, uncle and grandfather that any of us could ask for. Even in his last years as the effects of Parkinson’s disease took their toll and subjected Barry to a life few could imagine, his care for others and love of his family was always on display. Barry’s family would like to thank the staff at Purdy Pavilion at UBC for the care he received during the last few years of his life. A celebration of Barry’s life is planned for February 24th from 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at his daughter’s home in West Vancouver. Please email Jessica at [email protected] to RSVP.
