Obituary of Harry Lewis Wong
Harry Lewis Wong, passed away June 8, 2019 at the age of 90 years. An Immigrant, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend and Entrepreneur, who overcame Barriers and Difficult Times to Achieve the “American Dream.” Survived by Two Sons, Atlee and Delee, Six Grandchildren, Eight Great Grandchildren, One Great Great Grandchild, One Sister, Mai, also by several Nieces and Nephews and their Extended Families. Born in China, Harry immigrated as a child and spent his formative years in Canada and later in the United States. He married Wonda Lee in China in 1948. Harry returned to Canada, in 1957, with his first son Delee. Harry then went back to China in 1960 returning to the United States shortly afterwards. Wonda and their second son Atlee immigrated to the United States to join Harry in 1962 and settled in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After stints as Chefs for various restaurants in the Twin Cities, he became the Head Chef of Don the Beachcomber Restaurant at the then St. Paul Hilton. This lead to his Dream of Owning his own Restaurant and he purchased Moy’s Café in Minneapolis. The business thrived, but Harry decided to sell the business and retire in 1977. He and Wonda then moved to Vancouver, close to Family and the Chinese community. He enjoyed Gardening, Propagating Fruit Trees and Fragrant Flowers, playing Mahjong, going to the local casinos and Helping Fellow Immigrants with his Knowledge of English and Chinese and the use of his car. Wonda Lee passed away in 2008 after succumbing to a stroke five years earlier. Harry would visit her every day in the nursing home until her passing. Harry passed away peacefully with his family and closest friends at his bedside. He is gone, but not forgotten. Funeral service for family and friends will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 East Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC on Monday, June 17, 2019 at 12:30 pm. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, BC. Arrangements entrusted to Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, Vancouver, BC. 604.255.5444.
