Mr. John Sun Wing Wong 黃公新榮

It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of John Sun Wing Wong at the age of 87, at Burnaby General Hospital, on Thursday June 13, 2019. John was born October 10, 1931 in Taishan, China. In 1949, John traveled to Vancouver BC, Canada and found work as an assistant manager for his Uncle’s restaurant. He later returned to Hong Kong in 1953 and briefly courted May Ying until they became married shortly after. John and May returned to Vancouver where they raised a family of five children. John was a very industrious man with a great knack for business, and he fostered many successful enterprises. Aside from being occupied as a restauranteur, property owner/manager and land developer, John always had time to socialize with his many friends, and he always had time to entertain family gatherings as his belief in the family unit was what he cherished the most. During his retirement years, John played his favourite sport, golf, all over the world from the links at St. Andrews Scotland to Pebble Beach USA, even scoring a hole-in-one! Along with golf, dancing and singing were his other great passions in life. Always known for being active, John also enjoyed travelling throughout the world. John will be lovingly remembered by his wife, May Ying, his children, Richard, Edward, Terry, Lily (Dale), Sally (David), and his grandchildren Vanessa, Brandon, Kelsey, Evan and Joshua. He is survived by his brother Allan Kwok Wing (Sylvia Yuet Ying) Wong and his niece and nephews Janet, Danny, Jerry, Van and Ken. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday June 26th at 12:30pm, at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, 1835 E. Hastings St., Vancouver, B.C. Interment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby, B.C.
