Obituary of Mae Viola Haight
Mae Viola Haight (Toljanich) of Burnaby B.C., Canada battled a rare heart disease (Cardiac Amyloidosis) for over 6 years. Unfortunately, Mae passed away on Sunday the 16th of December, 2018 under the care of the Palliative unit in Burnaby General Hospital. Mae is survived by her husband William (Bill) her son Gary (Amy) son Christopher (Eliza) and her daughter Jennifer (Todd) grandchildren Christian, Melanie, Alex, Justin, Aiden and Eryn; her sisters Camella, Donna, Teresa and brothers John, Tony and Micheal. Mae was born on October 11th 1948 at Vancouver General Hospital. Mae graduated from Templeton High School. She then married Bill in 1968 and shortly after that they began a family. Mae loved and worked at home, raising kids and making sure everyone was taken care of. Later Mae enjoyed her work at Sears for many years. Mae was an avid gardener, enjoyed nature and camping with the family. She thrived in the kitchen baking and cooking. She also enjoyed entertaining guests and walks with her dog Rosie. Nana Mae loved her grandchildren immensely and was always there for them to talk, visit, watch school concerts and just to help out. Mae volunteered her time at the Burnaby Hospice program helping others in the community feel they were not alone in their illness. Mae always put others ahead of herself with a cheery and positive demenour. Mae let nothing bring her down and showed tremendous strength and perseverance in the face of her illness. Mae touched many lives, made us all smile and feel warm in her presence. Mom was the rock and glue of our family and will be sadly missed forever. Her Celebration of life will be held at Burnaby Mountain Golf course on Friday, January 18th of 2019 from 12 noon to 3:00 pm. Please add color to your wardrobe this day to reflect Mae’s bright spirit! Reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, chat, smile and enjoy life! Mae would want that. Please consider a donation in Lieu of flowers to the VGH Womens’ Cardiology Research Program. http://vghfoundation.ca/mae-haight
