Ved Sharma

Ved Prakash Sharma passed peacefully on February 3, 2019 in Vancouver surrounded by family. He was born on July 1, 1929 in Gurdaspur, Punjab, in northern India, where he spent his childhood with loving parents Maya Devi and Pt. Kundanlal and siblings Prakash, Prakash Vati, Ved Vati, Latta, Shanti and Shardha. He was raised during India’s partition and was actively involved in political movements during his teenage years. After he finished school he spent time as a heavy duty mechanic travelling all across India. He moved to Liberia, and worked as a manager in the manufacturing industry with Ford and Firestone. He transitioned to Vancouver in 1968 where he went on to build a successful real estate career. He married his first wife Kalash in the 1950’s and she passed away in 1974. They had two children Richa and Smrat (Sam). In 1978 he married Shashi and they had two children Priya and Atul (Johnny). He was known as a generous man, providing work, shelter and wisdom to those in need. Through the years he developed a passion for reading, history and keeping active by walking and gardening. He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Shashi, his children Richa (James), Sam (Rishma), Priya (Darryl) and Johnny (Jenny) and his seven grandchildren Amira, Jovin, Lily, Aariya, Joseph Ved, Estelle and Clara. A Funeral service will be held on February 7th, 2019 at Hamilton Harron Funeral Home, located at 5390 Fraser Street (38th & Fraser). Viewing at 1pm, service at 2pm and reception to follow.
