Obituary of Adrianus Van Hoof
We regret to announce the passing of Adrianus (Adri) in Vernon, at the Hamlets, on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the age of 95. Adri was pre-deceased by his loving wife Johanna in 2009. He was also pre-deceased by his 5 sisters and one brother all from Holland. Adri was born in Veghel, Holland in 1923, the 4th oldest in a family of 7 children. Adri and Johanna married in Holland and immediately immigrated to Canada in 1951. They lived in Falkland when they first arrived and stayed in the area for 39 years. During this time, Adri worked at Churchill’s sawmill in Falkland, spent many years logging in the mountains around Westwold and Monte Lake and then worked at Buff’s sawmill in Monte Lake, until that was destroyed by fire in 1979. He later worked installing fencing along highway right of ways for several years, until retirement. He also tended the family farm on Highway 97 outside of Falkland. In 1990, Adri and Johanna sold the farm in Falkland and moved to Vernon. Adri enjoyed farming, gardening, long walks, reading, playing cards and bingo, and tinkering with farm machinery and the family car. In later years he took up fishing, woodworking and completing jigsaw puzzles. Adri is survived by his three sons: Martin (Wendy), John (Barb) all of Vernon, and Michael (Cindy) of Falkland; one daughter: Cathy (Bill) Gray of Richmond: eight grandchildren: Kevin, Brodie, Karlee, Darren (Teri), Dylan, Kurtis (Taylor), Keaton and Kirby; one great granddaughter: Sawyer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 11:00am. Interment will follow in the St. Nicholas Cemetery. Following interment, family and friends will gather back at the church for a reception. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation can do so to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
