Obituary of Kenneth Clarence Nistor
Kenneth Clarence Nistor Born in Alberta Feb 15, 1929 Died Oct.17 2018 in Vernon, BC Ken passed away peacefully after a short stay in Vernon Jubilee Hospital ICU with family at his side. It is with gratitude for the care he received there, as well as the support he was given at Canterbury where he was living, that we reflect on Ken’s life. Ken began his working life delivering telegrams by bicycle in Vernon, BC for CNR, later becoming a telegrapher/dispatcher for CPR, where he worked for many years. You could say that Ken’s love for the railroad encompassed its history. In the early years it was the coal-fired steam engine that ran on the lines but by the time he retired, technology reigned. He and his wife Lil along with their children, Rick and Sheree enjoyed living in Summerland during most of those years. Always active in the life of their community, they were honoured by receiving Summerland’s “Citizens of the Year“award. After retiring to Vernon, Ken and Lil once again became active volunteers in their new community. Among the groups they enjoyed working with were the hospital auxiliary, Funtastic, and Vernon Winter Carnival. Ken and Lil enjoyed travels in their motor home as well and Ken especially loved to play golf, making more friends along the way. He played well into his 80’s. In more recent years, Ken and Florence have enjoyed time together, often taking a vacation by cruise ship and exploring new destinations. Florence has been a great support to Ken in so many ways. Her help as his health declined was a major factor in Ken managing as well as he did. He was always cheered and encouraged when she came to see him in Vernon. The family remain thankful for her presence in Ken’s life. Ken was predeceased by his wife Lil, his son Rick, his grandson Trevor, granddaughter Katie and his parents Carl and Eva Nistor. He is survived by his daughter Sheree Noyes (Gary), his sister Veronica Ploeger, his sister Shirley Ogasawara, his brother Bud Nistor, (Judy), special friend Florence Boyes, his beloved grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends who will gather at a later date for a celebration of Ken’s life. Condolences may be sent to: Sheree and Gary Noyes, PO Box 1964 Wenatchee, WA USA 98807
