Obituary of Larry Cecil Eigeard
LARRY CECIL EIGEARD July 7, 1940 - December 24, 2018 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Larry who passed away at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Christmas Eve from complications due to a stroke. Larry was born in Lethbridge, Alberta to parents, Cecil and Ann, who farmed near Raymond for many years. This is where his love of horses developed as he rode several miles to and from school each day. After the farm was sold, the next move was to Edmonton, then to Valleyview, Alberta and eventually moving to Winfield. In 1964, the family moved to Lavington. By then Larry was working in northern Alberta building roads with a Cat for a seismograph business. While home on a break he met the love of his life, Carol, and with their mutual love of horses they married on October 8, 1966 – recently celebrating their 52nd wedding anniversary. Larry then got into the logging industry until his retirement at the age of 56. From then on he pursued his passion of fishing. They would hook up the fifth wheel, take off and camp from May to September, fishing along the way all over BC at remote lakes with forestry campsites. Their cats and dogs accompanied them wherever they went. Larry loved animals and nature – always adopting strays and shelter animals. When he could no longer ride due to a bad back, he took up other interests. He rode a motorcycle for 30 years, cruising all the highways and byways. He then took up dirt biking, riding quads and snowmobiling. He liked his casino visits so he and Carol went on many bus trips to Reno and smaller casino centers across the line. As his eyesight began to diminish due to macular degeneration, he had to give up a lot of his activities with snowmobiling being the last to go. They finally moved to Vernon 4½ years ago which was quite an adjustment after having lived on acreages in the Lavington and Lumby area for many years. He enjoyed his small garden, taking care of his flowers, playing crib with his good buddies, Greg and Bill, and occasionally with his sister, Dianne. He liked watching sports on TV and the only time he would get riled up was when anything about Mr. Donald Trump was broadcast. Larry was a gentle giant who was quiet, kind and thoughtful. Most of all, Larry loved his wife, Carol (Lovey), and his son, Jordy. Larry is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol; son Jordy; his much loved kitty (Bridgett); sister Dianne Smithson (Bernie); mother-in-law Jean Young, brother-in-law Russ Young; one niece and two nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Cecil and Ann; brother Doug, sister-in-law Marie; and father-in-law Russ Young. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vernon Animal Care Society or to the Okanagan Humane Society.
