Obituary of Marilyn Alice Fraser
With sadness, we announce the passing of wife, mother, and grandmother at the age of 67. After a 24 year-long battle with multiple illnesses, Marilyn died peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Marilyn was born in Elk Point, Alberta and moved to Blue Springs in Lumby, B.C. in 1952 as a baby with her family. She grew up in Lumby and Vernon and remained here all her life. Marilyn is survived by her husband Hugh, daughter Denise, (Darrel) Wihnon, son Jason, and grandson Cameron. She is also survived by two sisters Helen Foisy and Marie (Joe) Sanesh; three brothers Marcel (Marjorie) Charest, Roy (Elda) Charest, and Richard (June) Charest, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Marilyn was pre-deceased by her sister Elsie Kuyper and brother Bert and Floyd Charest, mother and father Marcel and Alice (nee Hannah) Charest, and sadly by her 17 year-old granddaughter, Mercedes Fraser, after a tragic accident on August 17, 2012. She is sadly missed by her two dogs Felicity and George; grand-dogs Tyson, Spencer, Libby, Buster and Sassy; grand-cats Leroy, Jiggy and Lalo. Stray cats, dogs, and neighborhood kids were always welcomed for dinner. Marilyn and Hugh were married in 1969 and had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 5, 2019. She was the owner/operator of Allcare Janitorial, and A Perfect 10 Hair and Nail Salon. Marilyn enjoyed craft such as painting, decorating and art, and was also an avid gardener that loved plants and flowers. She loved to spend time camping and vacationing in Mexico, Arizona, B.C. and Alberta, and shopping trips across the U.S. border to Omak, Washington. Cremation will precede a celebration of Marilyn’s life; the service will take place at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, 4303 Pleasant Valley Road, Vernon, B.C. on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 12:00 pm. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be sent to her favorite causes; the SPCA, Small Dog Rescue B.C., or the #223 Red Lions Air Cadets, of which her granddaughter was a long term member. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com for the Fraser family.
