OBITUARY
Donald Walter McCannell
September 30, 1923 – December 3, 2018
IN THE CARE OF
First Memorial Funeral Services & Garden of Memories
Donald started life in Sioux Lookout, Ontario but spent his formative years in Transcona
Manitoba. He was a rascal according to many a family story which he would never deny.
Don, was of the generation that saw WW2 interrupt their early adulthood. He served
in the Canadian 1st Division Army as a Gunner. After the war he decided to seek out warmer
winters than Manitoba and found himself in BC working as a locomotive engineer in Squamish
where he met the love of his life, Daphne. After their early years of marriage in Squamish they
moved to North Vancouver and raised two daughters. In his retirement years, he was a loving
and involved grandfather to his grandchildren.
In their 68 years of marriage, there was much travel (always in search of a warmer winter
season), much laughter and much love for family and friends. They recently relocated to be
closer to family on Vancouver Island. While his passing was not unexpected, he will always be
greatly missed by all that loved him.
