Obituary of George Douglas Gunn
George Douglas Gunn 84, passed away peacefully at The Lodge At Broadmead on May 4, 2018 after living many years with Alzheimer’s. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick on April 22, 1934, he started raising his family in Montreal, Quebec and moved them to Victoria, British Columbia in 1973. There he opened a series of sandwich shops (Mr. Submarine, Bee Gee Sandwich Shop and George G’s Soup and Sandwich) where he enjoyed regaling his customers with funny stories as he poured their coffee and served up their lunches. George enjoyed many sports: fishing, golf, racquetball and especially hockey. He played Old Timers hockey with the Sidney Old Buoys and Peninsula Old Timers. Always an avid camper, he went from tenting in the early years, to piloting a motorhome across North America and even into Mexico with his second wife Doreen during their retirement. Predeceased by his mother Emily, elder brothers Aldard (Midge), Vernon (Joyce), and Frederick, brother-in-law William and wife Doreen. He leaves behind his sister Jane (Patrick), daughters Alison and Pamela (Anthony), grandchildren Bronwyn and Aidan, nieces Lynn, Sharron, Kathy, Theresa, Patricia, Cynthia, Tanya and nephew Richard, first wife Patricia, sisters-in-law Anne and Estella, stepdaughters Lynn (Ernie), Sharon (Rick) stepson Larry and step-grandchildren Chris and Charity. Funeral Mass for George will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth’s Church 10030 Third St. Sidney, BC at 12 noon June 8, 2018. A reception in the church hall will follow where you will be encouraged to share your favourite “George’isms” and humorous anecdotes.
