Ioanna Spanos

Ioanna Spanos passed away on Wednesday, June 5th in West Palm Beach, Florida at the age of 82. Ioanna was one of twelve children born to Dimitrios and Nicoletta Syndetou in the alpine village of Vasta (Basta), town of Megalopoli in the Arcadia region of the Peloponnese in Greece. Her father was the Priest of Vasta’s Chapel. At a young age, Ioanna along with her sister Christina, courageously immigrated by ship to North America seeking a better life; Christina remaining in Canada and Ioanna becoming a long-time resident of New Brunswick, NJ where she and husband Markos raised their family until retiring to Pallini Greece and eventually to Florida. Ioanna will certainly be remembered as an incredibly strong and spirited woman, self-taught and skillful; her generosity touched the lives of the many she made feel loved and cared for. The special life memories that Ioanna created will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Ioanna is survived by her husband of 57 years, Markos Spanos, her daughter Nicolette Chavez and John Bakie, grandson Marko Chavez, and son Jimmy and wife Angel.
