Obituary of Mrs. Shirley Margaret Campbell
CAMPBELL, Shirley Margaret February 19, 1933 - May 30, 2018 Shirley died peacefully in her sleep at Lions Gate Hospital in North Vancouver. She was predeceased by her husbands Hugh Scott Douglas and Claude Campbell. She is survived by her sons Ross Douglas (Susan), Roger Scott-Douglas (Deborah), Nairne Scott-Douglas (Anita) and Alasdair Douglas (Nancy Celetti) and her grandchildren Hugh (Lara), Graeham (Helen), Gregor (Rosa), Kathryn (Emmett), Jacqueline, Stefanie, Kristen, Hannah, and Meghan as well as her great-grandchildren Van, Morrisey and Henri. Shirley was born in Wales, took her nursing training in Oxford and London in the UK. She then married Hugh in 1956, before moving to Southern Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) where she continued to practice physiotherapy, while they raised their sons together. In 1966, she moved with Hugh and her sons to Calgary to begin a new life. In 1977, she completed her bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from the University of Alberta. She continued to practice physiotherapy specializing in special needs children in Calgary, Peace River, Nanaimo and Penticton. After Hugh’s death in 1979, she met Claude and they were married in 1983. Claude and Shirley retired to Invermere in 1997. After Claude’s death in 2015, she moved to “Amica in West Vancouver”, her “Fairmont” experience, where she loved being pampered by the staff. Shirley had a passion for family, multiculturalism and indigenous people; in fact, people in general as well as the planet earth. She will be deeply missed by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Doctors Without Borders. An informal celebration of her life will be held on June 16, 2018 at 2 pm at the Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver.
