Obituary of Mabel Tindall
Mabel Tindall 1920 ~ 2018 Mabel Tindall, born October 3, 1920, passed away on September 28, 2018 at the age of 97 years. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, John and Harriet Hewitt; husbands, Leonard Thomas, Harold Walton and Phillip Tindall; brothers, Harold, Norman, Ernest, John, Sam and Frank; sisters, Marjorie, Annie, Clara & Eunice and daughter in law, Roberta. Mabel was the 10th of 12 children born to John and Harriet on the family homestead at Tribune, Saskatchewan. As a young lady she worked in the Colgate district where she met and married Leonard Thomas in 1939. They farmed together until Len’s passing in 1963. During this time, they were blessed with three children Evelyn, Allen and Julie. Mabel was also a foster parent to Lucy, Brenda, Dennis and Dick Rocette after Len’s passing. Mabel moved to Weyburn in 1976 and became a group home operator with the mental health association until her retirement in 1986. Mabel married Phillip Tindall from Weyburn in 1997. They enjoyed life on the farm where she continued living for several years after Phil’s passing. During the summer Mabel could always be found in her garden and flowers beds. She had several hobbies that kept her busy during the fall and winter as she enjoyed creating beautiful needle work, crochet, knitting projects and playing music on her organ. Mabel was a member of the United Church, the Horticultural Society, Saskatchewan Bird & Small Animal Association, plus she volunteered with the Red Cross, Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Mental Health Association. One of Mabel’s greatest pleasures was her family and friends. She had a genuine concern for people and animals, always willing to assist anyone in need. Mabel passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2018, just five days short of her 98th birthday. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Evelyn (Frank) Dreher of Oxbow, SK, son, Allen Thomas of Colgate, SK; daughter, Julie (Dwight) Jacobson of Chestermere, AB; grandchildren, Susan Atkinson (Marv Windecker), Warren (Linda) Dreher, Len (Bonnie) Dreher, Lisa (Vince) Cartier, Wanda (Dan) Kautzman, Anita (Chris) Douglas, Derek Thomas, Staci (Kevin) Kam, Derrick (Carmen) Jacobson & Ken (Leanne) Jacobson; 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; sister, Hilda Martin; sisters-in-law, Lydia Hewitt, Betty Garling, Dorothy Tindall and Vera (Elmer) Ross as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the WSCH for their care and compassion during Mabel’s stay there. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from Grace United Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Reverend M. Barnabas officiating. Interment followed at Colgate Cemetery, Colgate, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers were Derek Thomas, Tyler Douglas, Kris Atkinson, Carter Kam, Jesse Douglas and Trey Kam.
