Obituary of Marie Bourgeault
On January 19th, 2019, Marie Bourgeault, of Weyburn, Saskatchewan passed away at the age of 94 years. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Marcel Bourgeault, and her eldest son Lyle Bourgeault who both passed away in 1998. Marie was also predeceased by her parents, John and Bernadine Kuemper, and her brothers Raymond, Joe, Gilbert, and Art Kuemper. Marie is survived by: her children Yvette (Don) Hagel of Nanton, AB, Giles (Janice) Bourgeault of Regina, SK, and Alan (Kathy) Bourgeault, of Clavet, SK; seven grandchildren: Alden (Amber), Darren (Hilary), and Kimberly Hagel, Matthew (Kierston), Elliott (Lisa), and Annora Bourgeault, and Milo Bourgeault; five great grandchildren: Libby, Griffin, Vallyn, Smith and Thoren; and siblings: Delores (Ron, deceased) Kuechle, Eleanor (Garvin) O’Boyle, Ernie (Helena) Kuemper, Benno (Irene) Kuemper, Edwin (Del) Kuemper, and Fred (Loretta) Kuemper. Marie was born August 17th, 1924, at her family home in Muenster, SK. The second born and eldest girl of two sisters and eight brothers, Marie was a wonderful help to her mother growing up on the family farm and a cherished sister. Marie married Marcel Bourgeault, a grain buyer, in 1947. Helping to pay the rent, Marie worked at a boarding house briefly before fixing up the elevator office to create their first family home together. When the grain dust began to affect Marcel’s health, the pair decided he would attend teaching college - a difficult decision to make with four young children. Even after receiving better offers from the grain company, Marie insisted that Marcel continue his plans to become a teacher. Determined to make this plan succeed, Marie contributed by sewing for others, selling Avon, and operating on a strict family budget. By the fall of 1964, Marie and Marcel moved to Weyburn where Marcel accepted a teaching position at the Weyburn Comprehensive High School. By then their four young children were attending school, allowing Marie to obtain a job at McCoy’s Drug Store. Years later Marie would take a job with White Cross Drugs, a position she enjoyed until her retirement. After Marcel’s passing, Marie continued on with her determination and tenacity - attending driving lessons, receiving her driver’s license at 76 years of age, and purchasing a car. Marie loved the independence this accomplishment brought her and was proud to have never received a ticket on her driving record. Marie loved summer and enjoyed keeping herself busy caring for her flowers. Coffee with friends, Wednesday night bingo, and helping with church events were a constant for Marie. She was exceptionally good at cooking for family events and loved having everyone together. She also found time to travel the world, visiting Europe, Egypt, Israel, Australia, Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, and New York. Prayers will be said on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Frances Plaparampil presiding at both. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. For anyone so wishing, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of their choice in Marie’s memory.
