Obituary of Joy "Jack" D. Allen
Joy D. Allen, “Jack” retired USAF, flew to his Heavenly home on August 2, 2019 at the age of 87. Jack was born September 29, 1931 in Mountain View, Missouri where he always loved roaming the roads and hills. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and two brothers. Jack leaves behind Mary his loving wife of 60 years, his daughter, Beth Rodriguez, four granddaughters Rebecca (Jason) Carey, Pamela (Brody) Burns, Angela (Kyle) Doerksen, and Victoria Rodriguez, two great granddaughters Cecilia and Julianna Carey, and baby Burns coming soon. He also leaves behind one sister Beth (Ron) McKay, Sister-in-law Sue Allen, brother-in-law Dean Weller, brother-in-law John Finn and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Jack proudly served his beloved country for 22 ½ years in the USAF. He served during the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. His Air Force career was filled with airplanes and he told many stories of the history of older planes as well as those he inspected and serviced. His second career was in the air conditioning and heating field for 20 years. God was very important in Jack’s life and he was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church Since 1973. He was very active in the Knights of Columbus, Harvest House Senior Group and volunteered over 15 years at the St. Jude Food Pantry. Jack Loved being with his family and spent many happy times vacationing, camping & fishing with them. His favorite places for fishing were the high country of Colorado with Mary’s brother and in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Jack and Mary spent many happy miles in their trailer exploring the beauty of all 50 states. He also lived in, or visited 12 foreign countries. Visitation will be held August 6, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with family present from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Devorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary. Rosary will be held August 7, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. with funeral following at 11:00 a.m. both at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery will Military honors at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with St. Jude Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus at St. Jude.
