Obituary of Richard Parrott
Richard “Dick” Owen Parrott, 75 of Wilmington, died on October 8, 2016 after a hard fight against multiple health issues that surprised us all. He was born on October 4, 1941 in Caro, Michigan. He leaves behind his wife, Nancy Lancaster Parrott of Wilmington and a sister in Michigan, Kathy Parrott Bennett. His multiple fur babies will also miss him. Dick came to Wilmington in the early 1970’s to work for the Star News. He later became co-owner of Longleaf Photo. He joined the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Department as a special sworn deputy and then became a regular deputy. In the late 1980’s, he joined Wrightsville Beach Police Department, retiring in the late 1990’s. His passion was photography. Dick’s specialty was his knowledge of lighting which showed in his bridal portraits, family portraits, pet portraits, and his indoor/outdoor images. Dick loved watching his students “get it” with their own photography. Dick was a member and past President of Azalea Dog Training Club. He helped many animal organizations with fund raisers. Dick loved his photography with Monty’s Home, Pawsitive Prison Partner Programs. He adored his monthly sessions photographing the cover model for Pawprints Magazine. Dick would always go to the back page of the magazine to see who found their furever home. Thank you to the nurses on the second, fifth and seventh floor of NHRMC. Special thank you to two of the greatest friends Dick could ever have had, Dave Temple and Larry Bray. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Monty’s Home, Pender County Humane Society, Carolina Collie Rescue, any Shetland Sheepdog rescue, or New Hanover Humane Society would be appreciated. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00PM on Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service, 3915 Oleander Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. Condolences to the family may be offered at www.coblewardsmithwilmington.com
