Obituary of Edward Kinnin
Passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday July 6th in his 89th year. Predeceased by his loving wife Betty Lou Lloyd in 1993. Cherished father of Pamela Jill Dietrich of London, David Lloyd Kinnin of Kelowna BC, father in law of Tom Dietrich (London) and Sharon Reinhardt (Kelowna). Loving grandfather of Michael Dietrich and Dayna Logan, Matthew Dietrich, Chelsea and Lee Amos, and Rylan Kinnin. Great grandpa of Harlin Amos. Loving brother of sister Ann Rush (Windsor), and predeceased by sisters Molly Harris, Jean Hedges, and Margie Cowie. Loving brother in law of Thelma McLellan (Amherstburg). Nieces and nephews remember him as a fun loving and generous “Uncle Ted”. As our father, he was actively involved in neighborhood family activities, mostly outdoors , and supported our education and recreational activities, rarely missing a hockey or baseball game, or piano recital. We enjoyed yearly summer vacations driving south for some fun in Florida with Tommy and Jean Tomelin, former Matthew Brady street neighbors. We followed his lead later on with our participation in Canada Day parades….he the Shriner Band member, and we the Drum and Bugle Corps members (Dave on Contra bass, Pam as flag girl). Ted's teaching career spanned 38 years in Windsor, Ontario. He graduated with his Ontario Teaching Certificate from London Normal School in Wortley Village at age 19. He went on to teach elementary and highschool students, influencing the lives of hundreds of children and adolescents. His commitment to life long learning led to studies and graduation from Western University with a Masters in Education, and Wayne State University, Detroit with a PhD in Educational Psychology. His teaching career continued with the Faculty of Education at University of Windsor where he retired in 1986. Ted enjoyed a full retirement with activities he enjoyed including the love of tracking Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays games, his love of drumming with Renato Belusic between the ages of 70 and 80, and singing in the Wesley Knox United church choir. He maintained beautiful gardens at his Windsor and London homes, and maintained an active healthy lifestyle with walking programs, biking, and Ageless Grace exercise. Ted preferred travels to local Ontario explorations, but also travelled to west coast Canadian destinations, mainly to visit his children and grandchildren. He maintained a steadfast commitment to sisters and their families, something he learned from his parents Margaret and David who emigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1920. Ted will be missed by many in his London community at Horizon Place residence, Wesley Knox United Church and Magic Monday Creativity Circle. Our deep gratitude to the staff at University Hospital and the Home based Community Palliative Care team for honouring Ted’s choices to maintain quality of life, close to family and friends, through to the time of his peaceful passing. Visitation will be at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre, 1969 Wyandotte Street East, Windsor (519) 252-5711 on Friday from 2-4 pm and 7- 9 pm. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Emmanuel United Church, 1728 Lincoln Rd., Windsor on Saturday, July 13th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Victoria Memorial Gardens.
