Obituary of Phyllis Marie McEwen
It is with sadness that we announce that Phyllis died peacefully on Friday, June 7, 2019, at the Ouellette Campus of Windsor Regional Hospital. Beloved wife of Stewart in their 65th year of marriage. Proud Mother of Cameron (Kim Brown) of Windsor, Colin (Susan) of Elora and Scott (Lynn Anne) of Blenheim. Grandmother to Jessie (Andris) Zandbergs of Guelph and MacKenzie (Eric) McEwen of Tilbury and Great-Grandmother to Oskar and Erik. Predeceased by her Parents, Beatrice and Stuart Allyn (Comber), Daughter-In-Law Bonnie Collins (Windsor) and In-Laws Sarah (Minnie) and Harvey McEwen (Windsor), Sister In-Laws Alice (Vern) Gust (Chicago) and Phyllis (Don McCartney (Oakville). Phyllis will be remembered by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. An only child born on November 23, 1927, in London ON, Phyllis grew up on a farm in the Comber area. She was active in her church and started employment with RBC in Comber. Meeting Stewart and moving to Windsor she started working for Bell. After her first son arrived, she became a devoted full time mother to her family of boys. She loved to sew, quilt and knit and having no women to balance the dinnertime discussions Phyllis volunteered with Scouting and Girl Guides of Canada eventually rising to Trillium District Commissioner. Knowing her way around the kitchen her nanaimo bars and butter tarts were legendary. She was an avid canner making jams and jellies every year. In December 2013, she suffered a stroke. Through her Husband’s determination to make her comfortable in her own home she was able to be cared for by him until the end (now he has the legendary tarts). We would like to thank friends and neighbours on the street that made this possible along with the family doctor, Dr. Loebach, nurses and caregivers she encountered along her path. Visitation will be held at the Walter D. Kelly Life Celebration Centre on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will be held in the Walter D Kelly chapel on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 1 PM. Interment to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations can be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada. Online condolences and cherished memories may be shared with the family at www.walterdkellyfuneralhome.com
