Obituary of William "Les" Leslie Burgon
91 years. Passed away peacefully at Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare on Wednesday, May 8, 2019. Beloved husband of Shirley. Dear father of William Gerald Burgon & his wife Laurie of London and Joanne Leslie Anderson of Burlington. Dear grandfather of 9 grandchildren and great-grandfather of 17 great grandchildren. Dear brother of Robert Burgon & his wife Jan of Windsor. Predeceased by his son Robert Alan Burgon (2003), his daughter Carolyn Nancy Plant (2018), his grandson Jason Anderson (2006) & and his brother Alan Burgon. “Les” was an employee of Michigan Consolidated Gas Co. for over 30 years, retiring as Manager of the Mechanical Drafting Dept. in 1987. No visitation or services will be held. Cremation has taken place. A special thank you is extended to the staff of St. Elizabeth Healthcare as well as the staff of the Stephanie & Barry Zekelman Wing at the HDGH Palliative Care Unit for their care and compassion. A lifetime resident of Windsor, Ontario who served in World War II in 1944 and 1945, Les married the love of his life Shirley June Howe in May of 1947. He worked in the mechanical drafting trade all of his career, starting with Devilbiss Canada and retiring in 1987 as the Manager of the Mechanical Drafting Department with Michigan Consolidated Gas Company in Detroit. A man of many talents, Les was an accomplished artist working primarily in oils, producing 100's of paintings and participating in many local art shows. A capable golfer, he won the Seniors Match Tournament at Beach Grove Golf Club in 1997 at age 70. In his late 70's, Les discovered he was an animal lover when he adopted a pup who quickly captured his heart and was a close companion for 13 years. He was always interested in learning and growing. In his 80's, Les took up playing the ukulele. In their mid eighties, Les & Shirley went on a river cruise in Europe. Les and Shirley spent their winters in Florida for almost 25 years A world traveler, Les & Shirley visited many countries around the world. With an English heritage, Les was a true anglophile visiting England more than a dozen times. He loved his family and many close friends and he will be missed and forever remembered by them.
