Obituary of Mrs. Adrienne Nerbas
With sadness, we wish to announce that Adrienne passed away peacefully at her residence in the Simkin Centre Personal Care Home on January 31 at the age of 89. Adrienne grew up in Winnipeg where she met her husband Donald. They were married in Toronto and began their family there. In 1963 she relocated, with her family, to the brand new community of Pinawa, Manitoba where Don was employed with Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd. There, she helped establish the new community while making many friends and raising her three children: Bruce, Robert and Sharon. When her children were in secondary school Adrienne returned to the work force, also with AECL, where she worked until she and Don retired together. After many years in Pinawa, Adrienne and Don moved back to Winnipeg, taking up residence in the Whyte Ridge area to be close to their four grandchildren: Don Jr., Alex, Braelin and Michael. Adrienne and Don both took great joy in the opportunity to play such a special role in the lives of their grandchildren. Mom was a very social, vibrant person. She loved the colour red and it suited her personality. Family was first and she showed her love with incredible dinners, fresh baked bread, beautifully sewn quilts for all the grandchildren, knitting, etc. The list goes on. Mom had a great (and sometimes irreverently inappropriate) sense of humour that could show itself in the most unusual places. It’s the stuff of family lore. We will be forever grateful for the love she extended to us all. In 2008 Adrienne was pre-deceased by her husband Don. Cremation has taken place and no formal funeral service is planned at this time. The family wishes to extend our thanks to the staff of Simkin Centre for the care and compassion that Adrienne received while living there. There are too many to name but we would be remiss if we did not extend special thanks to Terry who was Adrienne's regular companion for the last couple of years. Your warmth and companionship was a very important part of Adrienne's quality of life. Thank you.
