IN THE CARE OF

Thomson Funeral Home

GERTRUDE MARIE EYSSENS (nee KROEGMAN) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Gertrude on September 15, 2018 at the age of 99 at Concordia Place surrounded by her family. Left to mourn her passing is her sons Henry (LeeAnn), Richard (Regina); daughter Mary (Mike); 17 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren as well as her sister Graite Wiersma. Mom was predeceased by her husband Tony; son Bert; grandson Al; great-grandson Andrew as well as her parents, sisters and brother. Mom found her true love Tony in 1935 in Holland and married on September 11, 1941 and had 3 sons Bert, Henry and Richard. They came to Canada by boat in 1953 and to Winnipeg by train. It was a struggle in the early years for Mom and Dad and in 1956 they purchased their first home in Canada (where Mom resided until she was 97 years of age). In 1957 their daughter Mary was born to complete their immediate family. She loved spending time with her family chatting, having coffee and cookies (oh how mom loved her cookies) and enjoyed going to the cottage near Lac Du Bonnet and spending time in the yard with her flowers where she and dad spent their summers together, mom never got over losing dad (her partner of 56 years) and always wished he was there with her. Gertrude was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Women’s League at St. Gerard’s Church. As mom got on in years the women would frequently drop by and visit mom at home. Mom lived a simple life and never complained and always said that Canada was good to us. Her life revolved around her family, Mom will be sadly missed and will always remain in our hearts forever. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 21 at St. Gerard Parish, 45 Foster Street, with Father Greg Mulligan as the Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Vital Roman Catholic Cemetery. A big thanks to all the staff at Concordia Place for taking fantastic care of Mom. God saw you getting tired He wrapped his arms around you And whispered, “Come with me” God’s garden must be beautiful Because he only takes the best And when I saw you sleeping So peaceful and free from pain We could not wish you back to suffer that again
