Howard Michael Stewart

“Heaven will have a little more rhythm now” Howard passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at Health Sciences Centre. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his mother Laura Blackhall, brothers Dennis (Bev) and Glenn (Debbie), nieces, nephews and friends. Howard was born in Swan River, MB the youngest of three boys. His birth father, James Stewart, passed away when he was three years old. His mother Laura later met Alf (A.J.) Blackhall and the family moved to Windsor Park in Winnipeg. During Howard’s formative years, brother Glenn willingly dragged his little brother around to friend’s homes where Howard would sit in a corner watching his brother jam well into the evening. This is where he got his love for music. Later, Howard would take up drumming which played a large part in his life. Howard attended Beliveau Junior High and moved on to Windsor Park High School where he played and loved basketball. The weekends were family time at the lake. Alf’s father (Grampa Alex) shared his love of Caddy Lake developing Howard’s lifelong love of nature and respect for the environment. After finishing school, Howard joined a family enterprise spear-headed by his oldest brother Dennis. Years later, he moved to Colorado and New York where he looked after a Buddhist retreat, ski lodges, private cabins as well as building homes. After a 15 year absence, Howard moved back to Winnipeg where he continued his career at Manitoba Housing and Canada Post but mostly to spend time with his Mom. Laura was the recipient of his love and kindness that he possessed in abundance. Everyone who knew this “Gentle Giant” shared in his love and kindness. He was generous to a fault, always putting his loved ones first. Howard had a knack of making everyone feel as if they were his best friend. The family gratefully acknowledges the care and kindness of the staff at Health Sciences Centre (CCM) A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 19th, 2019 at Klassen Funeral Home (Dignity), 1897 Henderson Hwy, Winnipeg, MB at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. “Heaven will have a little more rhythm now”
