Obituary of Shirley Anne Pauline Wiebe
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Anne Pauline Wiebe (nee Derksen) on October 30, 2018 at the age of 82. Shirley was born September 30, 1936 in the small town of Lowe Farm, Manitoba. She spent her childhood years living both with her parents and three siblings and later with her grandparents. She was a hard worker and would often babysit her own siblings and for others in the community. In her later years she cared for her grandma and raised her brother Lynn (Butch) Derksen. Shirley was very active in her young adulthood – she was an avid curler, softball player, water skier and fisherwoman. She spent much of her free time in the Whiteshell where she met her husband to be Peter – a marriage that lasted over 50 years. Along with their son Kevin – the Wiebe family spent many summers camping in the Whiteshell with close friends and family. Many long lasting friendships were made in these summer excursions especially when they managed to get a permanent spot in Dorothy Lake. After retirement - winters were spent in Texas for many years until their health prevented the trip. Shirley was devoted to her son Kevin, daughter in law Krista and granddaughter Caitlyn. She was a very generous and thoughtful person that would always tell it like is. She formed many lifelong friendships from her curling days, the (Order of Royal Purple/ Elks OF Canada), Eatons and MTS. She will be missed by many. She is survived by her husband Peter, son Kevin Wiebe (Krista); granddaughter Caitlyn Wiebe; brother Lynn (Butch) Derksen; many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandparents, parents John and Anne Derksen, brother Richard Derksen and sister Lorraine (Arlene) Berg. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, November 19 at 6:00 pm at the Fort Garry Mennonite Brethren Church on 1771 Pembina Hwy. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made at Siloam Mission.
