Obituary of Evelyn Mae Smith Crawford
Evelyn Mae (Smith) Crawford, 78, a resident of 71 Woodlee Rd., Staunton, put on her angel wings and flew to heaven, Thursday morning, November 5, 2015 to be with Jesus and the love of her life for 61 years, her husband, John. Whenever you saw one you saw the other. We her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew they didn’t want to be apart. So now they are back together again. We will miss her going to basketball games with us. She looked forward on Thursday when she would go and help clean the church she belongs to. She was born on September 21, 1937 in Staunton and was the daughter of the late William Henry and Stellarine (Carter) Smith. Evelyn graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and had been employed with Western State Hospital, General Electric, Baldwin Park and R. E. Lee High School cafeteria. She was a former deaconess and choir member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church. In addition to her husband, John Alfred Crawford who preceded her in death on October 27, 2015; she was also preceded in death by one grandson, Kevin Crawford; a brother, Kenneth Lee Smith. She leaves to mourn two sons and one daughter, Alfred “Dean” Crawford, William “Frezell” Crawford and wife, Ann Jones, and Evelyn Diane Crawford and friend, Charles Jones; six grandchildren, Kelcey “KC” Crawford, Tasha Crawford and husband, Thomas, Dean “DJ” Crawford and friend, Kelly, Marcus and wife, Angie, Real Wilmott, and Akadeon Napier; six great-grandchildren, Shalon, Shaleena, Ava, Mac, Kloe and Taneisha; two great-great-grandchildren, Tavian and Janeeiah; great-godchildren, Davante’, Charles, Naomi and Da’Jhnea; a brother William (Monk) Smith; a sister, Catherine (Cat) Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m., Monday, November 9, 2015 at Lindsey Funeral Home in Weyers Cave or they may call at the home of Frezell and Ann Crawford, 422 Sunnyside St., Staunton, at other times. A funeral service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, November 10, 2015, at Memorial Baptist Church in Staunton with Rev. Willie Washington officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens. The family would like to give a special thanks to Diane, Nancy, Anita, Katelyn and Rev. Murphy for the care of our Mom.
