Wilmer Glen Pope Sr.

Wilmer Glen Pope, Sr., 82, of Rustburg, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Lynchburg General Hospital. For 40 years, he was the husband of the late Edna Lee Pope. Born April 11, 1937 in Ash County, NC, he was the son of the late Edward and Pansy Angel Pope. He was a retired Foreman with Kerns Bakery and Flowers Bakery. Wilmer was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by one daughter, Pam P. Wood; four brothers, Russell Pope, Willard Pope, John Pope, and Thurman Pope and two sisters, Alease Horne and Irene Woodie. Wilmer is survived by four sons, Don Miller (Karen) of Amherst, Mike Miller (Jackie) and Tony Miller (Mary) both of Madison Heights and Glenn Pope, Jr. (Bonnie) of Rustburg; three daughters, June Dobyns of Lynchburg, Donna Branham (Dean) of Lynchburg and Brenda Ayers (Kurt) of Rustburg; one brother, Delmar Pope (Cathy) of North Carolina; three sisters, Shirley Rash (Harold), and Hazel Lewis (Dennis), both of North Carolina, and Valryee Wilkason of Nebraska; 17 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren and his beloved dog, Wendy. He is also survived by close friends, Ed and Charlie. A service celebrating Wilmer’s life will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. Larry Pauley officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday, prior to the service, from 12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the STICU Nurses and Doctors at Lynchburg General Hospital and a special thank you to Dr. Kathleen Paul and Dr. Carl Moore.
