H. Eileen Haines
February 10, 1928 – July 10, 2021

Eileen Haines, 93 of Berne and formerly of Markle passed away on July 10, 2021 at Swiss Village Retirement Community in Berne. Eileen was a 1945 graduate of Oakwood High School in Ohio. She was a 1947 graduate of International Business College in Fort Wayne. Eileen was a secretary at Madison Silo for 17 years. She was a member of Markle United Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing euchre, she belonged to two euchre clubs, baking cookies, crocheting and making doilies.
Eileen was born on February 10, 1928 in Woodville, Ohio, the daughter of the late Francis and Virginia (Ladd) Pier.
She was united in marriage to Robert Highlen on February 26, 1948 in Bluffton. Robert preceded her in death on February 11, 1977. She later married Joseph Haines on October 3, 1981. Joseph preceded her in death on January 29, 1985.
Survivors include a daughter: Diana (Paul) Abnet of Berne; two sons: Lowell (Pat) Highlen of Pierceton, Rick (Bev) Highlen of Bluffton; five brothers: Ray (Joan) Pier of Antwerp, OH, Carroll “Toot” (Marilyn) Pier of Oakwood, OH, Roger (Marlene) Pier of Antwerp, OH, John (Bonnie) Pier of Oakwood, OH, David (Sarah) Pier of Paulding, OH; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by an infant brother: Robert Pier and a sister: Imogene Scarbrough.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, Indiana. We will be following the CDC’s and Indiana’s guidelines.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 15, 2021 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel.
Interment will take place at the St. Paul Cemetery in Wells County.
