Murphy Funeral Homes

David Silfrido Vidal was taken by the hand of our Lord on September 9, 2021 at the age of 50.   David was born in New York City to Merty Echavarria and Ramon Vidal. He spent his formative years in Jackson Heights. After graduating William Cullen Bryant High School in Queens, he attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice. In 1990, while in college he felt a call to action and enlisted in the United States Army. During basic training he earned the nickname "Legend." He served for ten years including military tours in Bosnia, Sarajevo and Iraq. Once he completed his service, he made Florida his home and pursued a civilian career in carpentry with the Florida Carpenters Union. He perfected his craft as a member of the Disney World Engineering team. Most recently, he returned to a career in protective services. David's most cherished duty was being the proud father of four; an honor he held in high esteem.  On May 17, 2009, David dedicated his life to God and was baptized as a Pentecostal Christian. He was a man of faith, serious and disciplined, but known to be funny, loving, romantic, and a deep critical thinker. He offered words of encouragement and quoted scripture for motivation and strength; a humble helper and friend to everyone he met. He was full of life and his favorite pastime was meditating by the water in the warm weather.  David was the beloved spouse of Maribel Vidal who preceded him in death five years ago. David is survived by his mother Merty Echavarria; father Ramon Vidal and stepmother Berta Vidal; his daughters, Pheonix, Shai, Jocelyn, and son, Raekwon; Miguel Vidal (brother), Vanessa Derenoncourt (sister), Abraham Vidal (brother), Leica Vidal (sister), and Noel Vidal (brother). He is also survived by his grandson Joshua Vidal; uncles and aunts, nieces, nephews, and many cousins - all who loved him dearly. We remember and celebrate his life as a lively and dignified person with a spirit that brought joy and fulfilment to many and whose legacy will live within us.
