Obituary of Rodney Paul Cassabon

R. Paul Cassabon, age 73, of Orland, Indiana, and formerly of Maumee, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at his home following a brief illness. Paul was born on September 23, 1946 in Toledo, Ohio to Franklin and Roseann (Taylor) Cassabon. Paul graduated from Maumee High School in 1965, and from Bowling Green State University in 1983, and attended Devine Word Seminary in Perrysburg, Ohio. He served as a Brother in the Catholic Church for 13 years in Indianapolis and the Philippines. He retired in 2014 after 13 years at St. Vincent DePaul School, Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he served as a teacher and athletic director. He also served as athletic director and coach at Morgan Park Academy in Chicago, Illinois for several years. Paul was a member of St. Mary’s of Assumption Catholic Church, Bronson, Michigan. He was a big fan of Notre Dame, he enjoyed following his Alma Mater, Bowling Green State University, and was a NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhart, Jr. Survivors include brothers, Lynn Cassabon of Perrysburg, Ohio, James (Michelle) Cassabon of Fontana, California, and Richard (Ronda) Cassabon of Toledo, Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Karen Maier. Visitation will be held from 2 pm until 4 pm Sunday, May 17, 2020 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Monday, May 18, 2020 at Beams Funeral Home, with the Very Reverend Daniel Hyman officiating. Burial will follow the services at Union Hill Cemetery, Bowling Green, Ohio. Memorial donations in his memory may be directed to St. Mary’s Assumption Catholic Church or to the University of Notre Dame. A special thanks to his nieces, Jennifer Maier and Tammy Higgins, and his great-niece, Jessy Kirk for the special care they gave to Paul during his illness.
