Ruby Mae Belch

Ruby Mae Riggs Belch, age 88, passed into Eternal Life on June 20, 2020 in Warrenton Va. She was born in Elizabeth City, N.C. on February 28, 1932 to the late William Oliver and Annie
Horton Riggs and was the widow of Harry E. Belch, Jr.
In 1951, she moved to Washington D.C. to start her career with the F.B.I., which she greatly
enjoyed. She and Harry married on July 27, 1952 in their hometown. After her children entered
school, she went to work for the Office of Naval Research in Arlington, VA. After retiring, she
worked part time at Putt-Putt Golf and K-B Toys.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Oliver
Belch, a sister, Evelyn Louise Riggs, and longtime companion, CDR Robert "Bob" Vollmer.
Surviving are her daughter Nancy Frederick (Paul), of Warrenton, and her son Dr. Harry E.
Belch, III (Lisa) of Round Hill, VA. She was a dearly loved Mamaw to six grandchildren,
Shannon Jenkins (Joe), K.C. Dao, Amanda Jeffries (Brian), Kyle Frederick (Sarah), Jessica
Stone (Matthew), Emily Belch and six great-grandchildren, Hailey King, Rhianna Mullins, Faith
and Angel Crowell, Holden Jenkins and Jaxon Jeffries and was looking forward to the arrival of
Olivia Reagan Stone in September. She is also survived by a sister, Ann Riggs Sawyer of
Elizabeth City N.C., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on July 8, 2020 at National Funeral Home in
Falls Church Va. Her niece, Rev. Lynn S. Parks will officiate. Burial will be at National Memorial
Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to St Jude's Hospital.
