Obituary of Cecil Monroe Shelton
Cecil Monroe Shelton, age 75, of Raven, VA, passed away Monday, December 28, 2020. He was born November 18, 1945 in Raven, VA. He was the son of the late George Washington Shelton and Mabel Exie Proffitt Shelton. He was also preceded in death by a special friend, Ruth Blankenship. He resided in Raven most of his life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and four wheeling with his many friends. Those who knew him say he never met a stranger, had a heart of gold, and was an extremely hard worker. He worked in the coal mines for over 30 years before retiring. He was a tough man and very resilient. He loved his family, especially his granddaughter, Kaidence or as he called her “Jo”. Left to cherish his memory include his two daughters; Lora Osborne and husband David, Julie Sutherland and husband Lance; children at heart, Denise Keen and husband Andy, xcfbhSargent and husband William; one granddaughter, Kaidence Rayne Sutherland; one grandson at heart, Preston Gilbert; one brother, Herman Shelton and wife Valerie and numerous nieces and nephews. A rolling visitation and a guest book for signatures will be available at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, 1401 2nd Street, Richlands, 24641 from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Sunday, January 3, 2021. As a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic and the Commonwealth of Virginia Mandate, the family will not be present at the funeral home. A limited number of people are allowed in the funeral home at one time. Facial coverings and social distancing are required at all times. A graveside service will be held at Greenhills Memory Gardens, 11800 Governor G C Peery HWY, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609 on Monday, January 4, 2021 at 11:00 AM.
