Obituary of Philip George Medell I
Philip G Medell I, 78, passed away on May 3, 2021. Phil, as his friends called him, was surrounded by family as he crossed over. Phil is survived by his significant other, Lola Faircloth, and his two children, Phil Medell II (wife Arlyn and daughter Kira) and Pola Medell-Wilkinson (husband Scott and daughter Melanie). Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marie, his brothers Richard, John and Joey and his sister Anna. He is survived by his younger brother Kenny. Phil was born in Brooklyn New York on July 3, 1942. In the late 50's, the entire Medell clan moved to the Edgewater MD, just outside Annapolis. There, the boys and Anna grew up enjoying sports and fishing. Phil left high school early to support his family, despite already having a scholarship offer to play basketball and being recruited by the Brooklyn Dodgers to play baseball. Supporting his family was always his highest priority. Phil started his apprenticeship as a meat cutter in Brooklyn, found work in the same trade in and around Edgewater and eventually was hired by Giant Food. Phil worked for Giant Food for 40+ years, before retiring. On July 28, 1962, Phil married Patricia (Pat) Beatty (deceased) in Baltimore MD. They moved to Falls Church VA in 1964 with their oldest child Phil II. Soon after Pola was born, the family moved to Fairfax. Phil and Pat were divorced in 1988. Phil spent his free time watching and playing golf, visiting with his family and having cookouts. In the early 1990's, Phil met and fell in love with Lola Faircloth. Lola has two daughters, Anita Johnson (Husband Keith and children Savannah, Hailey, Erica, Jake and Chloe) and Renee King (Husband Eric and children Ian with future baby Noah James and Ashley with new baby Quinn) Phil and Lola enjoy spending time with their families and especially the grandchildren. Family was a top priority in the years they spent together. Lola will carry on this tradition. Services will be held at Demaine Funeral Home in Fairfax VA on May 12, 2021 from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be served. All who wish to pay their respects are invited to attend. In lieu of sending flowers, please consider making a donation to CFF.ORG.
