Obituary of Robert Peter Ericson
Peter Ericson passed away peacefully on May 6, 2021. Peter is survived by his wife of 50 years (we’re going to round up from 49!) Linda; his son Jason and wife Kim, grandchildren Sadie and Drew; brother and sister in law David and Karin Ericson; sister Martha Demers and many close family members and friends. Peter was born on July 17, 1948 in Montclair, New Jersey. During childhood he and his family followed Pittsburg Plate Glass up and down the east coast with stints in Atlanta, Pittsburg and Delaware, Ohio. After graduating high school, Peter followed his father’s footsteps to study and run track at Union College in Schenectady, New York. He maintained a lifelong bond with the school and the close friends he made there. He was also proud that his nephew Tim followed him there several decades later. Following college, Peter served a stint in the Peace Corps in India before working at Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston completing his alternative service as a conscientious objector. He met a nurse named Linda Lebengood through friends at the hospital. Peter and Linda married in 1972 and moved to Oklahoma, where Peter completed his law degree at the Oklahoma City University. The couple settled in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania where Peter started a law career including working for a firm and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania before finding a niche in hospital and physician insurance defense. Following retirement, Peter and Linda moved to Richmond, Virginia to be closer to Jason, Kim and the grandchildren. Peter and Linda flourished in retirement in Richmond making many friends and getting involved in the community. A lifelong Unitarian, he took the extra time to serve in a number of capacities at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Richmond. Peter and Linda also travelled widely with friends and family with favorite destinations being Sanibel Island, Florida; Kure Beach, NC and any River in Europe. Linda was the center and true joy of Peter’s life. Peter was a wonderful father to their son Jason and grandfather to Sadie and Drew. He enjoyed golf, travelling, crushing competition in trivia, reading and all things Swedish. He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends but we all take comfort in the memories of this caring, honest and decent man. The family requests that you join in virtually for the livestream service at 3 p.m. on Friday, May 21, via the link below, https://livestream.com/accounts/7787388/events/9664342 In lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to Union College (https://ualumni.union.edu/) in Peter’s name.
