Karena L. Auer

Karena L. Auer (Hooks), 43, of Carrollton, VA entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at home alongside her beloved dog Royce. She was born on March 8, 1977 in Hampton, VA. Karena was formally educated in the Hampton City School System where she excelled academically and graduated from Phoebus High School in 1996. Karena had a special love for animals and spent her early career working in Animal Care at Armistead Avenue Veterinary Hospital and later at the Animal Dermatology Specialist on The Southside and in Richmond, VA. Animals were her passion and she enjoyed being around them and giving them support and unconditional love. Karena will be remembered for her enormous generosity and desire to do for others. If she could do something for someone, she would do her best to make it happen despite her physical limitations. She was very thoughtful and creative with her gift giving especially for Christmas and Birthdays which were made extra special because of her personalized touch for each gift. She also enjoyed taking the lead on cooking for the many special occasions. Her greatest joy to date was her daughter Mackenzie who she enjoyed spending quality time with and with the assistance of Mackenzie's dad (Jim Auer), raising her to be the beautiful, kind, and intelligent young lady that she has become. Karena was witty with such a great sense of humor and always strived to make people laugh, smile, or simply just brighten their day; usually by way of a funny picture, video, quote, or meme. Karena was preceded in death by her father, Lou Hooks; paternal grandparents, Jesse and James Hooks; maternal grandparents, Herman "Buddy" and Edith Moody; and her loving dogs, "Rocky" and "Brody". Karena leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Mackenzie Auer of Carrollton, VA; her mother, Sheila Hooks of Carrollton, VA; her brother, Lindsay Hooks (Robin) of Hampton, VA; her nephew, Christopher Hooks of Hampton, VA; and a host of special friends and family.
