Ann "Miss Ann" White Leonard

LEONARD, Ann White (“Miss Ann”), age 93 of Ashland, died March 24, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-one years, John Barry Leonard. She is survived by five children and their spouses: John Barry Leonard Jr. and Nancy of Sycamore, Illinois; Patricia and Ronald L. Higgins of Gordonsville; Barbara and William P. Dickinson, Jr. of Henrico County; Thomas J. Leonard of Ashland; and Cheryl and Ronald W. Harris of Ashland. She had ten grandchildren: Kate Hosey (Lance); Jack Higgins (Lisi); Will Dickinson (Angela); Drew Dickinson (Shannon); Crystal Norman (John); Carrie Belyea (Stephen); Kimberly Leonard; Leah Palm-Forster (Mieder); Lindsey McLean (Kevin); and Amy Harris, and four great-grandchildren; Conner and Bryce Tomlin, Elliot Belyea, and Elias McLean; also a sister, Virginia Lee White of Richmond. A 1941 graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, Miss Ann attended Mary Washington College in the class of 1945. She was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church where she served in several different areas for many years, including Secretary of the Administrative Board and the United Methodist Women. She retired from Randolph-Macon College in 1985 where she was secretary to the assistant of the president for college relations. After retirement, she began her years of volunteer work at Ashland Christian Emergency Services, Richmond Memorial Hospital, Memorial Regional Medical Center, and Meals on Wheels. She and her husband were charter members of the Hanover Country Club and both were active in the local China-Burma-India Veterans Association. Her remains rest at Nelsen Funeral Home in Ashland where the family will receive friends from 4:30 pm-8:00 pm on Tuesday March 27th. The funeral service will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 28th with interment in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond at 2:30 pm. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Duncan Memorial UMC, PO Box 247, Ashland, VA 23005.
