Bobby Bobby Ray Young

Bobby Ray Young, age 79, of Bassett, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at his home. Born in Rural Hall, NC, November 16, 1931, he was a son of the late Charlie Woodrow Young and Blanche Hudson Young. Bobby was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Italy during the Korean War. He was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and the Bassett Rotary Club. At Bassett High School Bobby excelled in baseball, football, and basketball, and remained passionate about these sports throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and teacher of the game to his grandchildren. He retired from Bassett-Walker after 17 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Annabel Lee Gusler Young, two sons, Mark R. Young and his wife Jane P. of Greenville, SC, and Robert R. Young and his wife Patricia J. of Irisburg, a sister, Barbara Y. Ayers and a brother, Clinton W. (C.W.) Young, both of Ridgeway, and five grandchildren, Robert J. Young, Derrick C. Young, Hannah E. Young, Jeremy R. Warren and Joshua E. Warren. The funeral service will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, April 29, 2011, at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett with the Rev. Jim Hewitt officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Martinsville and Henry County.
