Obituary of Virginia May Sydnor Grindstaff
Virginia May Sydnor Grindstaff, age 84, of Collinsville, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born in Washington, D.C., March 31, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Alvah T. Sydnor and Ethel Ransom Sydnor. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, John B. Grindstaff, and an infant son. Virginia ran Skyline Ceramics for many years and retired from Belk. She was a member of Smith Memorial United Methodist Church where she was active in the Seekers Sunday School Class, Circle 1, and the United Methodist Women. She had also been a Girl Scout leader and enjoyed the Sportlanes Seniors Bowling League and monthly Rook games. Surviving are two daughters, Joy Axson and her husband Peter of Chesapeake, Kay Grindstaff and her fiancé Dwayne Grogan of Collinsville, a son, Scott B. Grindstaff and his wife Lisa of Bassett, two brothers, Thomas Alvah Sydnor of Atlantic Beach, NC, and Joseph Edward Sydnor of Pueblo, CO, seven grandchildren, Daniel, Jessica and Bryan Axson, Megan Mabe, Conner and Grant Grindstaff, and Stephanie Tamayo, and a great-grandchild, Jeremy Zane Nunn. The funeral service will be at 11 A.M. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Smith Memorial United Methodist Church, Collinsville with the Rev. Patricia Stover and the Rev. Dr. Tilden Bridges officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. Memorial contributions may be made to Smith Memorial UMC, P.O. Box 1081, Collinsville, VA, 24078.
