Obituary of Robert G. "Rob" Althoff
Robert G. “Rob” Althoff, age 66, of Indianapolis, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2013 in Santa Paula, California. He was born on July 11, 1946. He graduated from Franklin Central High School in 1964 and worked for Indiana Bell until he was drafted into the Army in 1966. In 1968 he resumed his telephone career with Indiana Bell and continued with AT&T and Lucent Technologies. Before retiring from Lucent in 2000, he managed company property on site in Beijing, China and Riyadh, Saudia Arabia. Rob is survived by his beloved companion, Marianne Bartels; mother, Betty Althoff; his sister, Sharon VanCleave; his brother, Michael Althoff; and loving aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. He was predeceased by his father, Robert E. Althoff. After retirement, Rob enjoyed traveling the United States; briefly as a truck driver with Marianne and more recently as an RV camp worker in Vermont, Idaho, Colorado, Texas and California. His last assignment was at Ventura Ranch KOA where he and Marianne were co-managers. Rob was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He loved mountains, RVing, trains, his Lady, and his dog, Baby. His witty humor, intelligent business sense and attention to detail will be sorely missed. "His candle burned out long before his legend ever will." In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Wounded Warrior Project. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Little & Sons Funeral Home, Beech Grove Chapel, where the funeral will follow at 7:00 p.m.
