OBITUARY
Dorothy Atwood
January 1, 1922 – February 2, 2012
Dorothy Atwood went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb 2, 2012. She was surrounded by family as she left this world, and was surely met by even more loved ones as she entered the next.
Born January 1, 1922, in Bloomfield, In. she was the daughter of Garrett and Olive Stalcup. On June 22, 1946 she became the adored, and adoring, wife of Wilfred Atwood. He kept her close by his side for 64 years, and has been awaiting her arrival for 18 months.
Dorothy was the loving mother of two children, Carol Findley (Cody) and Gary Atwood, and "Mimi" to her grandchildren Thomas Doyle (Deborah), Alice Flick, Jenny West, Heather Atwood (Polo) Johnny Mathias (Nikki), Tiffany Franklin (Dan) and several great-grandchildren.
When she began her career in the 1940’s, Dorothy took a job at RCA. Later on she became a cook at Arlington School, and worked for MCCSC until her retirement. She attended Arlington Methodist Church for 85 years, where she was, at the time of her death, the longest-standing member, having served there for over 78 years.
Dorothy is survived by her children, her grandchildren and her beloved sister-in-law Sue Stalcup. Those celebrating her arrival are her parents, her husband, and her brothers Kenneth and Keith Stalcup.
The family would also like to recognize and express their appreciation for Lora Flores-Wheeler for her extraordinary care and compassion in Dorothy's last years of life.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Arlington Methodist Church or Southern Care Hospice in Dorothy’s name.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Arlington Methodist Church with Rev. Jim Roach officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. and at the church Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M.
