OBITUARY
Sherry Lynn (Payne) Williamson
February 19, 1950 – March 7, 2018
Sherry Lynn (Payne) Williamson, age 68, of Bloomington, died Wednesday morning (03/07) at Garden Villa in Bloomington. She was born on February 19, 1950 in Monroe County to Robert and Phyllis (Hopper) Payne. She attended Hillside and Clear Creek Elementary Schools, Dyer Junior High School and graduated from Bloomington Senior High School in June 1968. Sherry also graduated from the Indiana University School of Education, receiving a BS degree in Elementary Education in 1992. She went on to complete graduate level studies in Reading.
Professionally, Sherry taught at the 3rd grade level in schools in Ocala, Florida. Sherry had also been a student teacher, an instructional aide, a Title I assistant and a classroom size aide in elementary schools in Bloomington, Ellettsville and Spencer, Indiana communities. Her other professional experiences include: credit banking, administrative assistant in private sector, a food safety specialist in a local health department, grocery clerk, a shoe salesperson, a drugstore attendant and a university financial aid clerk.
Sherry's hobbies included reading a good book, quilting and Scouting. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader, a Boy Scout Troop Committee Chairperson and an Assistant District Commissioner in Valley Trails District, Hoosier Trails Council. Her Scouting awards include: a 40-year Veteran, The District Award of Merit and The Silver Beaver Award.
Sherry is survived by her loving family, her husband, Dennis Williamson, of Bloomington; two sons and daughters-in-law, Brett and Amanda Williamson and Scott Williamson and Lilybeth Doglione-Williamson, all of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Abby and JoJo Williamson and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Beverly and Tim Heaton, of Guthrie, Indiana and Tami and Roger Allen, of Bloomington. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents and one sister in infancy, Teresa Jo Payne.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 21 at 12 noon at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Bloomington with Rev. Dr. David Mullens officiating. Private family burial services were at Rose Hill Cemetery.
